Fall
1. Retake the ACT and/or SAT.
Colleges use your best score for admission and scholarships.
2. Narrow your list of colleges.
*Continue campus visits.
* Meet with college reps at a College Fair or at your high school.
3. Request letters of recommendation for scholarship and college applications.
4. Apply to 3-4 colleges.
* Application deadlines are typically in December-January.
5. Update your Activities Resume at EducationQuest.org
6. Apply for LOTS if scholarships. Where to search:

*The college you plan to attend
*Free national search sites
Winter
1. Prepare to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
* Apply for a PIN at pin.ed.gov (student and parent).
* Log into a Financial Aid-Program Webinar at EducationQuest.org
* Complete your taxes early for use on the FAFSA.
2. Complete the FAFSA at fafsa.gov before your college's priority date.
* Use the FAFSA Demo and other FAFSA tools at EducationQuest.org.
* For additional help on completing the FAFSA, make an appointment at EducationQuest in Kearney 800-666-3721
3. Watch for acceptance notifications from colleges you applied to.
4. Continue to apply for scholarships.
Spring
1. As a follow-up to the FAFSA:
* Expect a Student Aid Report (SAR).
* Verify your FAFSA information with the college, if they request it.
* Expect financial aid award notifications from your college (s).
* Compare notifications to determine which college offers the best award package.
* Make your final college selection.
* Notify the other schools of your final decision.
* Notify your school counselor with your final decision so your final transcript can be sent to the college of your choice following
graduation.
* Notify your school counselor of ALL scholarships that you have received. If you are selected for a scholarship, they will usually notify
you by letter.
Summer
1. Apply for student and parent loans, if needed. Complete Student Loan Entrance Counseling at studentloans.gov
2. Attend freshman orientation at your college.
